The news segment highlighted the ten year anniversary of the Nevada Veterans Treatment Court. The program aired this Veterans’ Day on KNPR 88.9.
Craig Drummond, Esq recently presided over a Police Fatality Public Fact-finding Review to look into the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate death of Tashi Brown.
A video clip captured on Officer Lopera’s body camera showed him chasing and catching Brown and using seven stun gun jolts, at least 12 punches and a neck restraint on Brown for more than a minute — even after a sergeant, Travis Crumrine, told him to let go.
During a review, representatives from the District Attorney’s Office present witnesses and make a presentation of the essential facts surrounding the police-involved death. After the prosecutors finish their presentation, the presiding officer and ombudsman may also ask questions.
Craig Drummond, serving as the hearing officer for the review, chose 47 written public questions to answer from the 83 submitted by audience members. Drummond said the remaining 36 were irrelevant, repetitive or outside the scope of the hearing.

Attorney Craig Drummond was recently quoted in a Las Vegas Review-Journal article regarding the criminal investigation into Henderson Constable Earl Mitchell’s questionable spending.
A source has confirmed that the Metropolitan Police Department served warrants at the constable office and his Henderson home, and two sources said officers spent about four hours at the office seizing computers and paper records.
Criminal defense attorney Craig Drummond said the search warrants show law enforcement is taking the questionable spending seriously.
“These investigations can take months. They can take years, but my hunch is they will move quicker to make sure funds are not removed,” he said.
In March, a Review-Journal story detailed that Mitchell wrote himself more than $70,000 in checks over the past two years from an account containing county money for his deputies’ wages.

Mitchell has held the office since 1995, and hours before the story was set to be published, he dropped his re-election bid. The article shows Mitchell wrote $72,000 in checks from county accounts, withdrew roughly $9,000 from banks and ATMs, pulled out money at bars and casinos, and spent thousands more on meals and trips to see his family.
Clark County started an audit of Mitchell’s spending in response to the publication of the article.
Footage of the Las Vegas Gunman from the massacre in Las Vegas on Oct 1st was recently released by MGM, the parent company of the Mandalay Bay. The recent article by Wade Tyler Millward in the Las Vegas Review-Journal concerns the possible strategy implications of releasing the footage six months after the shooting. Attorney Craig W. Drummond was quoted in the article asserting that the video raised more questions that it answered.
Ross Johnson, a public relations specialist was quoted saying, “They want people to see that there is no way in that video a normal employee would have actually seen anything,” adding that it was an appropriate move from a public relations standpoint.

Ramirez died during a confrontation with law enforcement in June. Eric Jorgensen will serve as ombudsman for the review, and Chief Deputy District Attorney Michael Schwartzer will represent the District Attorney’s Office in this proceeding.
